The Price of a Pomeranian
A Pomeranian’s price reflects a range of factors:
- It starts with buying a female. A breeder usually buys a puppy that must grow up successfully and in good health. The more promising the puppy, the higher its price.
- The next two years involve dog shows. Depending on the show’s status, entry costs PLN 90–200, plus travel and hotel costs for each event.
- The female obtains breeding approval, and we begin the mating process: veterinary examinations and repeated hormone tests (about PLN 60 per test), the stud fee, transport and further veterinary costs. 😉 A considerable sum has already accumulated before we even know whether she is pregnant.
- Pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound (about PLN 50), and we must also account for the cost of caring for the female during this period.
- Birth: Pomeranian puppies are relatively large compared with adult dogs. Mothers can have difficulty giving birth, particularly with the small litters of two or three puppies typical of the breed. A caesarean section may then be necessary (about PLN 600).
- Pomeranians are very difficult to breed. Litters are small, complications are possible and not every mating results in pregnancy. Financial losses and setbacks are part of breeding, just as happy outcomes are, and cannot be ignored.
- We have a litter! 😀 The puppies grow, the breeder devotes every minute to them—and time is money—and raises them using the best products.
- The price also includes the fees that a breeder must pay to ZKwP.
All this means that a well-socialised Pomeranian of excellent breed type—with the right size and proportions, a lovely face and a beautiful coat—has its price. That price also reflects the everyday living conditions of the puppy’s mother.
